Week 2 Day 1

So today was the first day of week 2, considering how hard I found it last Thursday when I did my first ever run I found it went quite well.  I managed the first 2 90 second intervals comfortably but then started to get quite out of breath, I dont think the heat helped either. I got through it though and think I will find it easier next time as week 1 proved.

The aches are pains were not noticeable at all during the running today, calves ached a bit when I stopped but I just did some stretches and I am going to have a nice bath.

The music on the podcasts for week 2 is better too, still not what I would pick but an improvement.

Sun beating down on what feels like "my" field as no one is ever there
Next run will be either Saturday or Sunday and I am planning to go swimming again in the morning.

Week 1........DONE!!! YAY

Well I debated whether to do the third run of week 1 today, I had so many other things going on but both kids are at school till 4.20 and I had a spare hour so I did it and it feels great to have completed week 1 and be ready for the next phase.

I found today much easier than the other 2 runs, still hurt my calves a bit but I found the 60 second runs went over much quicker and I wasnt desperate to stop.  So pleased I have found this plan it seems to be working already, look forward to seeing how I cope with week 2, its a new challenge but I will put my mind to it.

I was also lucky enough to have a huge field to myself so no one to put me off or make me feel daft I just got on with it!

Week 1 day 2

We had planned to go to south shields today for a walk and to do the second run but time just disappeared after 11am ballet class and my hubby needed to be back to watch the Man U match so we decided to just go out and do the second run together on the field.

It was nice to have my family with me for support, the kids started it but gave up and sat down to watch us instead.  I didn't struggle as much with the run, I felt less out of breath and never felt that I wanted to give up but I did feel more pain in my legs this time.

Rest day tomorrow and I am doing no exercise, well maybe a spot of hoovering!

When we had finished running we sat and watched the kids playing in the park to get our breath back, I must admit my husband is a much faster runner than me but I am doing it for the exercise not the speed.

Only 1 run left of week 1 and I have no plans of quitting!

Papped by my hubby!

Cool down, not quite as red faced as race 1!

Morning after the first run!

Well I was a bit worried my legs might ache today but they were fine, I bounced up out of bed, got ready and took the kids to school then headed to the swimming baths.  I set myself a goal of 30 lengths but wasn't sure if I would manage it as I haven't been to the pool in years.  I managed it easily and could probably have done more but didn't want to push myself too much on my day of rest from running.

Planning to do week 1 day 2 tomorrow with the family, hoping to find it a bit easier than yesterday.  Wish me luck!

Week 1 day 1 of C25K

I have been trying to get fit and lose weight for so long now and nothing has ever really worked for me or I have never had the willpower and determination to keep going.  I have 2 young children who are now both at school so I can't get away with calling it "baby weight" anymore!

In January I took up zumba and really enjoyed it but struggled to get to classes due to childcare issues.  I bought the dvds and do it as often as I can but I still felt it wasn't enough.

When the kids went back to school in September I decided to really get back into my weight loss and fitness mission and lost 5lbs in the first 2 weeks which boosted my confidence.  Today I took the next step and started couch to 5k.  I have heard of this program before but had never spoken to anyone who has done it, after advice and support on twitter I decided to go for it.  I downloaded the podcasts from itunes and got myself out onto the local football field.

I found it hard, I won't lie.  I have never really been any good at running and today was no exception but I pushed on with it and got through it, when I heard a voice in my ear say "you did it" I felt such a huge sense of achievement.  I had only ran for 8 minutes in total but for me this is actually quite a lot!

I look forward to the next run!
